On Thursday, the defensive line and linebacker groups tested at the 2024 NFL Scouting Combine. That event featured several of the top 2024 NFL Draft prospects at both positions. With the linebacker group, former Notre Dame standouts Marist Liufau and JD Bertrand had the chance to test out their skills.

Unfortunately their performances were a bit limited at the event. Here is how each fared on Thursday on the field.

MARIST LIUFAU

The measurements were no surprise for Liufau, who also measured in at the Reese’s Senior Bowl. Even so, his combination of length and athleticism is still something to marvel over. Somehow, Liufau also added another quarter of an inch to his arm length.

Here are his measurements at the Combine.

Height: 6-2 ⅛”
Weight: 234
Arm: 34 ¼”
Hand: 9 ⅞”
Wingspan: 79 ⅜”

As a tester, Liufau only participated in the forty-yard dash. You should expect him to do the rest of the testing, including vertical jump, broad jump, short shuttle and three-cone drill at the Notre Dame Pro Day. He did post a 4.64 second forty-yard dash, which is a solid number for a player his size.

In the field drills, Liufau looked very smooth. While he may have major questions with his processing skills, there is no questioning that he is an impressive athlete. Liufau looked especially smooth in the coverage drills, which should be a major asset for him on the next level.

JD BERTRAND

Like Liufau, Bertrand also showed up with slightly longer arms in Indianapolis. That is good to see, especially for a player who has some limitations changing direction and in coverage.

Here is how he measured in Indianapolis.

Height: 6-0 ⅞”
Weight: 235
Arm: 30 ⅝”
Hand: 9 ¾”
Wingspan: 74 ⅞”

Unfortunately Bertrand was not able to perform in any of the testing at the Combine. He was spotted in a boot on his foot, and appears to have an undisclosed injury. It will be interesting to see if he can participate in the Pro Day on March 21st.
