Notre Dame has opened its home schedule with Purdue on 12 previous occasions. No program has faced the Irish more often in their home openers than the Boilermakers.
Notre Dame holds a 10-2 record against Purdue in home openers. This year’s lid lifter with Purdue is the second home opener with the Boilermakers in the past three years (2010). Prior to ’10, Notre Dame had not opened its home slate with Purdue since 2002.
Notre Dame has captured each of the last three home-opening meetings with the Boilermakers. Purdue has not defeated the Irish
in a Notre Dame home opener since Sept. 28, 1974.
The most famous home opener with Purdue came during the 1966 season. Both teams were ranked in the top 10, Notre
Dame at No. 6 and the Boilermakers at No. 8.
Purdue was led by All-American Bob Griese, but quarterback Terry Hanratty and
