PLAYERS: Devin Smith
TEAMS:
Devin Smith’s highlight reel catch was the first of OSU’s eight TDs (AP) The final score might have been about what we expected; Ohio State easily outclassed Miami University on the both sides of ball.  A 56-10 victory is always a great way to start the season even thought this didn’t qualify as much of a test. It wasn’t so much the win itself, but the key elements of that win that should have fans feeling confident about 2012. After suffering through an anemic passing game in recent years, the Bucks started slow again on Saturday.  Any concerns were dismissed, however, when Devin Smith nabbed a fantastic one-handed catch that put the Buckeyes ahead 7-3. If crazy TD grabs aren’t your thing, how about sophomore QB Braxton Miller’s record-setting 161-yard rushing performance.  Not only was it the best ever for an OSU quarterback, it featured a 65-yard run to the endzone that gave an indication of the kind of athlete Miller can be. Miller finished with 368 total yards and three scores...

VIDEO: Devin Smith Ohio State Touchdown Catch Of The Year

Look at Ohio State welcoming in state rival Miami and throwing a 56-10 beating on the bros. Yes, the days of Jim Tressel pulling out 20-3 wins against the MAC are over. Now the Buckeyes have Tebow Braxton Miller throwing for two bills and rushing for another 163 yards. And let’s not forget that 23 of those yards came via an amazing one-handed TD catch from Devin Smith. Will you...

Ohio State Pops the Cork on the Urban Meyer Era

For a year now Buckeye fans have been anxiously awaiting the opening game with Urban Meyer calling the shots. There have been many opinions on how Meyer will do at Ohio State, and what Meyer will do at Ohio State. One thing that is pretty consistent through all of these, is that everyone believes that he'll be successful. If today's game was any indication, it's going...

Video: Ohio State's Devin Smith amazing catch

Ohio State Buckeyes wide receiver Devin Smith made an incredible touchdown catch on Saturday against Miami (Ohio). Not a bad way to start the season for coach Urban Meyer.

Ohio State's Devin Smith with the "Catch of the Year"?

We are only, what, two or three days into the new college football season and already we have what could be the catch of the year, or at least that's what Eric Collins of the Big Ten Network believes. Ohio State Buckeyes receiver Devin Smith hauled in a one handed that appeared to have been slightly overthrown by quarterback Braxton Miller. The touchdown put the Buckeyes ahead...

Helmet Stickers – Ohio State v Miami (OH)

Week One of the 2012 Ohio State football season is officially behind us. The Buckeyes didn’t come out firing on all cylinders in the first quarter as we had hoped, but they definitely finished strong in closing out Miami (OH) 56-10 to mark the first win of the Urban Meyer Era convincingly. With that, it’s time to pass out some helmet stickers for a select few who performed...

The Buckeye OL Isn’t Worth Talking About, and Other Things that are Ok by Me

A game like Saturday is great. Especially for a fanbase that has been through what Ohio State fans have been through over the course of the last year. Watching the offense rack up hundreds upon hundreds of yards in the second quarter of the game, it felt like the demon that is Walrusball was finally being exorcised. These games are also tricky, though. What should be made of them...

Ohio State Football: Meyer’s Debut a Success

Urban Meyer and the Ohio State football team opened the season on Saturday with a 56-10 win over the Miami (OH) Redhawks. The Buckeyes started out slow, but a spectacular touchdown catch made by WR Devin Smith in the second quarter ignited the OSU offense and then, they never looked back.  Quarterback Braxton Miller finished with 207 yards passing and 161 yards rushing, a single...

No. 18 Ohio St. 56, Miami (Ohio) 10

Braxton Miller rushed for 161 yards, a record for an Ohio State quarterback, and threw for two scores including Devin Smith's highlight-reel, one-handed catch as the 18th-ranked Buckeyes ushered in the Urban Meyer era on Saturday with a 56-10 win over Miami (Ohio). Meyer, who won two national titles at Florida, moved to 11-0 in season-openers. The slow-starting Miller, who...

RedHawk Down – Ohio State rolls Miami (OH)

Once Skull Session was complete and the student section got through their first attempt at Quick Cals, with Mickey Marotti and the team leading the way, it was time to finally get football back underway in Columbus with 105,039 packed into Ohio Stadium for the 2012 opener. Nine months of hype and hope, and an incredible build up of intensity within the Ohio State program and fanbase...

Why Ohio State didn’t take the ‘High Road’

Although this analysis of the confounding reinstatement of Ohio State backup linebacker Storm Klein comes a week after the fact, I decided instead to see whether there would be any resonating outrage over this and other off-season arrests of current Ohio State University (OSU) football players.  As a resident of Central Ohio for 27 years and an alum of OSU, I had hoped that someone...

Ohio State Football: Buckeyes impressive in Urban Meyer's debut

Over the off-season in Columbus, OH, a catchy tagline around the Ohio State football program was that the club was in the midst of an “Urban Revival.” Urban Meyer’s arrival at the school provided a fresh start for both a team that went 6-7 last season, and for a man who nearly coached himself to death in his previous job at Florida. Simply put, things had...

Ohio State, John Simon and talk about criminals

As you no doubt heard, Notre Dame radio analyst Allen Pinket got suspended for remarks about how having criminals on your college football team makes you better. He even used Ohio State as an example. Buckeyes DT John Simon, a future NFL pick, talked about malfeasance and punishment within the Buckeye program at media day Has Urban Meyer’s reaction to off the field issues been...

Touchdown Tuesday – Ohio State v Miami (OH)

Miami of Ohio gave dozens of gifts to the Buckeyes during the first quarter of Saturday’s game. Play after play, the RedHawks should have put points on the board, but the quarter finished with them only scoring one field goal, making taking a 3-0 lead into the second quarter. I have to imagine Urban Meyer had a few choice words for several members of the offense, who racked...
