Expectations for Urban Meyer’s first year at Ohio State were high. The program was in the dumps after Hurricanes Pryor and Tressell left Columbus in shambles. The Luke Fickell clean-up effort wasn’t enough. Meyer took the Tiger Woods “Winning Takes Care of Everything” approach when he led the Buckeyes to an undefeated 12-0 season. Now, the expectations are even higher. Meyer led Ohio State to the programs first undefeated season since the 2002 National Championship season, leaving Buckeye supporters like myself to ask the question, “Can he do it again?” Yes, he can, and it all starts with recruiting. Dating back to his Florida days, Meyer has proven himself to be a recruiting guru. Ohio State’s 2013 class is ranked second by 247 Sports and Rivals.com (both have Alabama ranked first). However, that’s all old news. Here’s an update on where Meyer and the Bucks currently stand with their 2014 freshman. According to 247 Sports, Ohio State’s 2014 class is ranked 13th in the nation, with Texas A&M, The State Up North (boooo), and Tennessee (yes, Tennessee) leading the pack. The Buckeyes have nine hard commits, eight of which are 4-star caliber players. It’s no surprise that four Ohio natives top the list of recruits, with OLB Dante Booker and WR Parris Campbell hailing from Akron’s St. Vincent – St. Mary High School. Booker, who committed three weeks ago, is the nationally ranked 85th best player (4th in his position), and a grand addition to an already-dangerous Buckeye defense. Campbell is currently seated 127th nationally, 20th in his position. You might be worried that the Buckeye’s top two players are ranked 85h and 127th, but fear not Buckeye fans. Come Wednesday, February 5, 2014, if the Buckeyes haven’t made any bigger moves, then you should worry. On last year’s National Signing Day the Buckeyes locked down 9th ranked WR Corey Smith, 29th ranked S Vonn Bell, and 53rd DE Joey Bosa. On June 21, the Buckeyes have a scheduled visit with 6 foot 6, 300 pound, nationally 2nd ranked OT Jermaine Eluemunor. 247 Sports reported that Eluemunor visited UCLA on Friday, and committed to the Bruins earlier today. There’s no reason to believe that Eluemunor won’t still visit Coach Meyer in Columbus, but there’s now less likelihood of him wearing the Scarlet and Gray in 2014.
