To say the least, it was an active weekend for Ohio State Football. First, the good news! Head Coach Urban Meyer and the Ohio State coaching staff have been in search of an offensive lineman after the loss of OT Reid Fragel to the NFL. This past weekend, Columbus held host to junior college standout and New Jersey’s top prospect Chad Mavety. Mavety stands tall at 6-foot-6 and weighs in at nearly 320 pounds, making him one of the (potential) bigger boys on the line. How did the visit go, you might ask? Pretty darn well according to ElevenWarriors.com.  Photo Courtesy of 247 Sports “Overall it was an awesome visit,” Mavety said. “It was more than what I expected, honestly. There were a lot of good parts to the trip, but I really liked just hanging around the facility and seeing how things work at Ohio State.” As if the opportunity to put on the Scarlet and Gray wasn’t enough, the opportunity to actually see the field is even greater. With Ohio State losing a lot of starters on the offensive line after this sesaon, Mavety has the opportunity to be a leader on the line, if he can handle it. Being a junior college transfer makes the transition to Ohio State a fairly large challenge. Mavety won’t be making a decision anytime soon, but it’s refreshing to hear such a highly-rated player singing the praises of Meyer and the Buckeyes. And now for the bad news. Urban Meyer swiped a kicker from Nick Saban and Alabama, but the Crimson Tide reeled in a big fish from the 2014 recruiting class.  WR Derek Kief, one of the Buckeyes’ top targets and a 4-star recruit, verbally committed to Alabama on Sunday afternoon. It’s unfortunate to see such a highly targeted player go to a national championship contender. It’s even harder to see a kid from the state of Ohio go. Kief, a Cincinnati native, adds great depth to an already dangerous and potent Alabama offense, strengthening the Buckeyes potential opponent in a future BCS game. But don’t lose hope, Buckeye nation, Coach Meyer is still on the prowl. Coach is still recruiting 4-star prospects Saeed Blacknall, Mark Andrews, and Austin Roberts, all in addition to already-committed 4-star recruit Parris Campbell.
