ORLANDO — Daryll Clark, Penn State and the Big Ten Conference all exhaled as the final second ticked off the clock Friday afternoon at the Capital One Bowl.
No more questions, at least for now, about not being able to play with the big boys.
Clark, Penn State's senior quarterback, had struggled terribly in crucial games the past two seasons. But the final drive of his college career reversed the negative label that had been placed on him: terrific talent, big-game bust.
Clark's clock-chewing, 12-play, fourth-quarter drive gave Penn State — which has heard all season that it hadn't beaten a good team — a 19-17 win over LSU. Yes, that would be LSU of the SEC, the league most responsible for the Big Ten's most embarrassing moments the past half-decade.
