Penn State running back Kaytron Allen participated in the team’s Wednesday practice and was seen during the media’s weekly viewing window.

Allen’s is one of Penn State’s most important players.

But in Saturday’s 41-13 win over Northwestern, Allen played just eight snaps, leaving the game early due to an unspecified injury.

In his postgame press conference, coach James Franklin said he was “not sure” what Allen’s status was. Through Penn State’s 5-0 start, Allen’s rushed for 307 yards and two touchdowns and has averaged 4.4 yards per carry. These numbers are below last seasons pace. Allen picked up 867 yards and 10 touchdowns, averaging 5.2 YPC.

Before Penn State, Allen spent his freshman year of high school at Norview High in Virginia where he rushed for 1,465 yards and 16 touchdowns, earning Maxpreps Freshman All-American and All-Eastern District honors. Allen then transferred to IMG Academy to play his last three years of high school under former NFL player and current head coach Pepper Johnson. He rushed for more than 1,000 yards and matched his freshman year output of 16 touchdowns his first season at IMG. In his junior year, he rushed for 515 yards and nine touchdowns. In his senior year, he rushed for 1,400 yards and 27 touchdowns as IMG was ranked the No. 1 team in the country by USA Today. Allen was selected to play in 2022 Under Armor All-American Game. Allen was rated as a four-star recruit by Rivals, On3, 247Sport and ESPN.

In Allen’s absence Saturday, Trey Potts stepped up, rushing for a touchdown and catching another.

But Penn State would love to have Allen back, and with 10 days until the next game, which is against UMass Oct. 14 at Beaver Stadium, it looks like he’ll be good to go.
