Rainy, late-morning bowl game at Fenway Park looked as you'd expect

Nothing screams "bowl season" these days like steady rain for an 11 a.m. football game in a baseball stadium on the East Coast.

That's exactly what fans who descended onto Boston's Fenway Park took in as they watched the hometown Boston College Eagles host the SMU Mustangs in the Wasabi Fenway Bowl. Perhaps with the idea of creating a new early morning tradition along with the Red Sox home game on the morning of the Boston Marathon, BC's faithful (and a few SMU fans) made the trip to the home of the Red Sox, though it was far from a packed house.

Reddit's official account for college football gave people an up-close view of the dreary weather from what's traditionally the third base side of the backstop, sprinkled in with the wry humor that makes the account famous:

One can hop on to any social media platform to find more fan views of the action. For the most part you'll see a whole lot of gray clouds, ponchos and, unfortunately for the game's organizers, thousands of empty seats.

Some of the more interesting images came courtesy of College Football Campus Tour, which took in the opportunity to visit one of America's most iconic structures. For anyone who has gone to Fenway, chances are you've seen one of the stadium's greatest charms that aren't really charms, the obstructed views in the grandstands.

On a positive note, BC pulled off the upset over the 17th-ranked Mustangs, 23-14, thanks to Thomas Castellanos' two fourth-quarter rushing touchdowns.

If anything, SMU and BC were able to get familiar with one another. The Dallas-based school will join the ACC this summer, with games taking place on BC's campus at Alumni Stadium in future seasons. If anything, the Mustangs may want to schedule games early in the season and not find themselves dealing with chilly or downright frigid New England days in late November.
