Just a week ago, coach Brady Hoke’s Michigan Wolverines suffered their first setback of the 2013 season with a heartbreaking four-overtime 43-40 loss to the Penn State Nittany Lions down in Beaver Stadium.
On Saturday, the Indiana Hoosiers provided Blue the opportunity to get back to their winning ways and regain some confidence before the program goes on the road for the big in-state rivalry game against the Spartans. Fans in The Big House who braved the overcast, dreary, wet conditions were treated to one incredible performance, if they liked offense.
Quarterback Devin Gardner obviously had his best day ever running the Wolverine offense completing 21 of 29 passes for 503 yards (a school record) and two touchdowns. Gardner also ran the ball for three scores to go with his 81 yards rushing.
The 584 combined offensive total is the new Wolverine record for yards in a game; a record held prior by Denard Robinson. Jeremy Gallon was on the receiving end for 14 of those completions and before even the third quarter was over totaled 343 yards receiving.
The receiving yardage record was previously held by Roy Roundtree and set in the game against Illinois back in 2010. When the day was over, Gallon not only held the Wolverine record but the Big Ten record as well with 369 yards receiving.
The Wolveines as a program set a new school record for yards in a game with the 751 yards of offense. Brady Hoke remains undefeated at home with a 19-0 records. And if that wasn’t enough, Fitzgerald Toussaint scored four times too! What a game!
