PLAYERS: Andre Heidari
TEAMS:
An official at the Hyundai Sun Bowl made a horrible call during the first quarter of the Hyundai Sun Bowl on New Year's Eve when a field goal attempt by USC Trojans kicker Andre Heidari was initially called good even though it was shanked wide left. The official underneath the left goalpost was in the best position to make the call as to whether the USC field goal attempt was good or no good. However, as we watch the video below closely, it would appear that the official was looking straight ahead the entire time that the ball was in the air, and didn't look up to make sure the ball went inside the goalpost. That would be our best explanation as to why this official made such an inexcusably bad call by calling the field goal good. Fortunately, instant replay was used to correct the official's mistake, and the call was properly reversed so that the final ruling was that the field goal was no good. In the end, however, the missed field goal was insignificant in the final outcome as Georgia Tech defeated USC 21-7. H/T Bob's Blitz. Hyundai Sun Bowl: USC Trojans Football vs. Georgia Tech

The USC Trojans take on the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets on New Year’s Eve in the Hyundai Sun Bowl, the culmination of disappointing seasons for both squads. The 7-5 Trojans fell far, fast, after beginning the year as the preseason No. 1. Georgia Tech had to appeal for an NCAA waiver that would allow them to even go to a bowl this season after finishing with a losing record. The...

Robert Woods seems bitter that Lane Kiffin didn’t get him the ball enough

USC junior wide receiver Robert Woods announced after Monday’s Sun Bowl that he would be foregoing his senior season to enter the NFL draft. The announcement came as no surprise for a few reasons. One, Woods had three big seasons for USC and had little left to accomplish in college. Two, he became a secondary option on the offense behind sophomore Marqise Lee, and he probably didn’t...

Will Trojans be ready for the Sun Bowl?

As it turns out, Matt Barkleys career as a USC Trojan is over. USC fans last glimpse of him in action is being helped off of the field at the Rose Bowl after suffering a shoulder injury on a hard hit from UCLA outside linebacker Anthony Barr. When USC (7-5) takes the field on Monday in El Paso against Georgia Tech (6-7) in the Hyundai Sun Bowl, theyll do so without Barkley, it was...

LaRue decommits from USC

Sebastian LaRue tweeted Wednesday afternoon that he has decommitted from Coach Lane Kiffin and the USC Trojans.

USC WR Robert Woods will forego senior season and enter NFL Draft

Tweet   The USC Trojans finished the 2012 season with a 21-7 loss to Georgia Tech in Monday’s Hyundai Sun Bowl, leaving their record a disappointing 7-6 after being ranked No. 1 in the Associated Press preseason poll. Freshman quarterback Max Wittek started the Sun Bowl in place of injured senior Matt Barkley, who will [...]

Sun Bowl official botched missed field goal call, had it overturned (Video)

This is precisely why we have instant replay. During the first quarter of the Sun Bowl between USC and Georgia Tech on Monday, USC kicker Andre Heidari clearly missed what should have been a relatively easy 37-yard field goal. The only problem was the official standing underneath the left upright didn’t see it that way, and he signaled that the kick was good. After an animated...
