Report: Front-runner emerges for Washington head-coaching job
Arizona HC Jedd Fisch Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

The Washington Huskies appear to have settled on their replacement for Kalen DeBoer.

Arizona head coach Jedd Fisch has emerged as the top target in the Huskies’ coaching search, according to Pete Thamel of ESPN. Fisch is the only candidate with whom Washington officials have made contact and there appears to be mutual interest.

The interest in Fisch comes after Kansas coach Lance Leipold, another top target, took himself out of the running by announcing he will be staying with the Jayhawks.

Fisch ticks a lot of boxes for the Huskies. He has engineered a remarkable turnaround at Arizona, leading the team to a 10-3 record last season. He also has experience in the Big Ten, having served as Jim Harbaugh’s passing game coordinator at Michigan in 2015 and 2016. That could prove valuable as Washington moves to the conference in 2024.

Washington will have some rebuilding to do, with much of the talent from this year’s team transferring or going pro. Fisch’s work at Arizona should give the Huskies confidence that he would be able to successfully oversee the effort.
