Rutgers Player Invited to 2024 NFL Scouting Combine

The official full list of prospects invited to the 2024 NFL Scouting Combined has been released, and just one Rutgers player is invited. Defensive back, Max Melton received the invite and is a name to watch for in this year’s draft. Here is a look back at Melton’s time with the Scarlet Knights and his projection in the 2024 NFL Draft.

Max Melton: Rutgers Player

Melton’s first season with the Scarlet Knights was in 2020. After three seasons, Melton could have gone on to the draft but chose to spend a fourth year with Rutgers. In the four years, Melton has 22 passes defended and eight interceptions, one of which he returned for a touchdown, according to Sports Reference. He also had one forced fumble and four fumble recoveries. Melton also had 111 total tackles, 81 solo, 8.5 tackles for loss, and one sack. Melton playing one more year is a big reason his draft stock increased. The Rutgers defense has been dominant, and Melton has been a big reason why. As much as the Scarlet Knights would love to keep him, it is time for him to pursue a career in the NFL.

Max Melton: Draft Stock

Melton is definitely a name to watch for in the draft. His stock continues to rise and could prove to be a valuable later-round pick. As of now, pre-combine, Melton is a projected fourth-round pick. Melton has a talent for getting to the ball, but targets can sometimes get the better of him on routes. He is still young though, and once he gets drafted, can develop into a solid player for any team. NFL Draft Buzz currently ranks Melton as the 22nd defensive back in this year’s draft. Pro Football Focus currently has him as the 16th top corner. If the position starts going fast this year, Melton can be drafted fairly quickly. Anything can happen between now and the draft. Melton, who also received a Senior Bowl invite, will have another chance to impress scouts.

The 2024 NFL Scouting Combine will take place from February 27th until March 4th. The 2024 NFL Draft will take place from April 25th until April 27th.
