For a brief moment this afternoon, the verdict on the rest of Oklahoma quarterback Sam Bradford's tumultuous 2009 campaign was in: Off his second shoulder injury in a little over a month, the reigning Heisman winner had reportedly elected for season-ending surgery under the most famous scalpel in sports, wielded by Dr. James Andrews in Alabama, and in all likelihood the end of his decorated amateur career. Typical recovery time from the surgery is roughly four months, just enough time for Bradford to heal and prepare for the crucial round of pre-draft workouts next spring. Some people were (and still are) already waving bon voyage to one of the great college passers of the most unabashedly pass-happy era in the game's history.
Our assumptions will have to linger, though, at least one more day after Bradford left reporters hanging by cancelling his afternoon press conference to "gather more information" before announcing a decision. No word on when that decision may...
