The Vanderbilt Commodores are looking to steal a road win (and their first SEC win this season) from the Georgia Bulldogs this Saturday night. However, as the week nears it’s mid-point, the only question looming over Vanderbilt’s team right now is which quarterback will be responsible for leading the Commodores in that endeavor—Austyn Carter-Samuels or Jordan Rodgers? Vanderbilt coach James Franklin lists Austyn Carta-Samuels as his quarterback on the new depth chart while keeping the freedom to change his mind before Saturday night’s game at No. 5 Georgia. Franklin said Monday he will decide by Thursday based on practice who starts against the Bulldogs (3-0, 1-0 Southeastern Conference) in what he pointed out is a game-by-game situation. (Teresa Walker, “Vandy coach lists Carter-Samuels top QB, says practice will decide starter vs No. 5 Georgia”, greenfieldreporter.com, 9/17/12) To read that comment, it would certainly appear that Franklin is less concerned about naming a starter than he is with finding an approach that will 1) keep the Georgia defense off-balance and 2) use the particular skill-sets of his two quarterbacks in the best way possible.
