Shilo Sanders shares shocking IG message amidst Colorado transfer news
? Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

Year 2 of the Deion Sanders era has brought another major wave of change during the spring transfer portal window. Coach Prime overturned the roster in 2023 and hit on a number of additions, including sons Shedeur and Shilo Sanders. However, Shilo Sanders' Instagram post on Tuesday indicated that all might not be going well in Boulder.

The spring transfer portal opened on Tuesday, and the Buffaloes had a surprising number of announced entrants. 2023 No. 1-ranked cornerback Cormani McClain will enter after barely playing last season despite Colorado needing help at the position. The team's best offensive lineman, tackle Savion Washington, also put his name in the portal.

Shedeur Sanders returned to Colorado to help his soaring draft stock and to help the Buffaloes improve upon its 2023 record. With Coach Prime possibly eyeing another job sooner than later as the program will struggle to continue paying his salary, it was a mutually-beneficial decision to help both of their outlooks. A big season for both the player and coach could mean Shedeur goes No. 1 in the 2025 NFL Draft and Prime finds a premier job.

But with the Buffaloes replacing all five offensive linemen from last year, a unit that was already dreadful, the team's in major flux. The talent available thus far in the transfer portal is underwhelming. It's clear that programs are figuring out how to manage NIL efforts as players stay put.

Shilo's IG post is asking defensive transfers to message him, and for offensive prospects to reach out to Shedeur. The Buffaloes are losing two key reserves on defense as well, so help is desperately needed.

It's impossible to fault Shilo and Shedeur for looking around them and wanting better help. It's a tough landscape to draw in talent, especially when Colorado's financial issues when they inked Prime's deal were clear. This isn't a program able to replicate Ohio State's NIL offerings, for example.

Outside of Boulder having a beautiful campus, they don't have a ton to offer potential additions. Walking onto campus right now before the spring game and expecting to play is a tough ask. Remember, players are uprooting their lives to learn new systems, coaches, and teammates.

That said, Colorado is a high-profile situation right now, and Coach Prime is a draw. Playing well at Colorado can get a player drafted, or the chance to transfer up next winter. Recent recruits who failed to play in 2023 should take the chance of blocking for Shedeur and maximizing their exposure.

But it's not a good sign overall for the Buffaloes to lose more starters and rotational pieces. The team lacks depth across the board and any departure stings.
