At media day prior to the BCS Championship game, Notre Dame head coach Brian Kelly denied interest in the NFL. Kelly interviewed with the Philadelphia Eagles shortly after his Fighting Irish were dismantled by Alabama.
He then left the country.
Did Kelly really have interest in the NFL? If so why did he only interview with the Eagles? Was Kelly simply trying to increase his paycheck?
Whatever the reason the flirtation happened. Brian Kelly spoke with an NFL team he spoke about how he had dreamed to coach at the professional level. That should be enough to cause great pause in South Bend.
This happened a few years ago to Notre Dame.
A rumor began circulating that Charlie Weiss had interest in going to the NFL. Fearing a slide as the school was beginning to turn the corner — they promptly gave him a ten-year deal.
It did not work out. Weiss was pushed out of Notre Dame after poor results caught up with him.
Notre Dame will give Kelly a raise, maybe they already have, but they should not. He already announced he is returning to the school. There simply is no incentive to pay him more. Kelly flirted once, he will do it again.
Brian Kelly has won everywhere he has went. He has also left everywhere. One thing is for sure, Brian Kelly will need to prove that Notre Dame is indeed back.

Gunner Kiel, the Notre Dame back up quarterback to Everett Golson, apparently had an interesting experience at a local movie theater.
