An inside linebacker from the University of North Carolina, Kevin Reddick was the leader of the Tar Heels’ defense. We talked with Doc Kennedy of the Tar Heel Blog, a North Carolina Tar Heels community on SB Nation, about the senior. Tale of the Tape Height- 6’ 2” Weight- 246 pounds Class- Senior   Can you give some background info on him and a quick overview of his career? Reddick was a steal for UNC out of high school after choosing the Heels over Alabama, South Carolina, and Tennessee. He was a four-year starter at middle linebacker in Chapel Hill and posted 36 tackles for loss, which is 5th on the school’s all-time list. He was named first-team All-ACC after leading the league in tackles for loss and 85 tackles overall.   What are his strengths and weaknesses? He has a knack for getting into the backfield and has great instincts. Scouts and observers say he has the skill set to be a starter in the NFL but is also stiff and lacks lateral quickness. Many have also said he made far too many mistakes as such an experienced senior, although to be fair, he was playing in a new scheme this season.   After his sophomore year, he was touted as a potential first round pick.  Did his performance actually decline, and if so, why do you think it has? That’s a great question. The statistics say no, as Reddick posted 85 tackles this season, up from 71 last season. He also led the league in tackles for loss. But don’t forget Reddick played for three seasons beside linebackers Quan Sturdivant, Zach Brown, and Bruce Carter, all of whom are playing in the NFL now. There was also the coaching instability at UNC, with 3 head coaches in Reddick’s four years, including a scheme change this year to a 3-3-5 hybrid, in which Reddick was used as a blitzer. There has been questions by scouts about his effort and intensity.   As a captain for two seasons and the only captain this season, what does that say about his leadership ability and what his teammates think of him? Again, a great question as it seems to stand in contrast to what scouts and observers have said. Reddick seems to be well-regarded by teammates and coaches, and the defense had its ups and downs this season adjusting to the new schemes, although most of the defense’s troubles were with the secondary. Initial reports from the Senior Bowl have been positive, so that is a plus.   You can follow Doc on Twitter @DocHeelfire and the blog @TarHeelBlog.
