Sun Belt Football: Troy Win Second Consecutive SBC Title Game
© Danny Wild-USA TODAY Sports

Jon Sumrall has been an FBS coach for less than two full seasons. In that time, he's won two conference championships and amassed a record of 23-4 with the Troy Trojans.

Troy completed their second consecutive Sun Belt championship campaign on Saturday with a 49-23 title game win over App State. The Trojans have now reached the 11-win mark in consecutive seasons for the second-time in program history.

As the Trojans don the SBC Championship Belt again, here's what stands out from the game and its result.

Kimani Vidal's Jaw-Dropping Day

Kimani Vidal set two Sun Belt title game records with 233 rushing yards and five rushing touchdowns. The rushing touchdowns are also a single-game Troy record. Vidal cements his place as one of the best running backs in FBS this year, landing now inside the top five in rushing yards.

Dominant D-Line

On Saturday, Troy's defensive line outmatched Appalachian State's offensive line, particularly in the pass rush. The Trojans sacked Joey Aguilar five times with ten tackles behind the line of scrimmage.

Javon Solomon led the way in that category with two sacks and two forced fumbles. Particularly on the final few defensive series, Solomon made a few plays that helped put it out of reach for App State.

22-2 Since Their Last Loss to App State

Last September, Troy lost to Appalachian State on a last-second Hail Mary. They seem to have taken that loss to heart since, playing some of the best football in the school's history in the time since.

Most, if not all, bowl eligible teams will find out their fate on Sunday afternoon following the release of the latest College Football Playoff rankings.
