The Tennessee faithful are starting to get restless.
The Volunteers program should be able to attract a big name coach, but so far they’ve been turned down by a Big East coach, Charlie Strong, and Mike Gundy. The Vols are starting to venture into desperate territory, but they need to realize that sometimes great hires aren’t made in the first week, or for that matter, the first two weeks of December.
Yes, schools do get impatient and names start getting thrown around as the right answer, but when looking at the coaches that have been hired in late December or early January, you’ve got some pretty successful guys.
Nick Saban was hired on January 4th by Alabama.
Les Miles was hired on January 2nd by LSU.
Chip Kelly was promoted to head coach at Oregon on March 30th.
Brady Hoke was hired on January 11th by Michigan.
And really, the list could go on. Yes there have been some great hires early in December too, Brian Kelly was hired on December 10th by Notre Dame, but the Vols don’t have ...
