Tennessee Vols expected to finally get the transfer news they've been waiting on
Jeremy Reper-USA TODAY Sports

The Tennessee Vols are expected to finally receive the transfer portal news they've been waiting on for weeks.

According to 247Sports' Steve Wiltfong, LSU transfer offensive tackle Zalance Heard is expected to join Tennessee as a portal addition.

The Vols are in dire need of an offensive tackle after losing Gerald Mincey, a Florida transfer who started for the Vols in 2022 and 2023, to the transfer portal (Mincey has since committed to Kentucky).

Heard is a former five-star recruit who played in 12 games (with one start) as a true freshman for LSU last season.

The expectation is that Heard, who is from Monroe, LA, will play left tackle for Tennessee in 2024, which would move John Campbell from left tackle to right tackle.

Campbell played left tackle for the Vols last season after transferring to Tennessee from Miami. He posted a video earlier this week that appeared to show the veteran offensive lineman working out of a right tackle stance, seemingly confirming that he's on board with the position move.

The Vols could still use some more offensive line help from the transfer portal. The left guard position is unsettled entering the offseason and while Tennessee has some options that are already on the roster (Andrej Karic, Vysen Lang, etc), they'd be wise to try to land a potential upgrade from the portal.
