This Saturday Texas A&M will face Southern Methodist University for its third straight game in Kyle Field. The Aggies are looking to recover from their hard loss last week against Alabama and improve on their defense to be SEC ready for their next conference game. AP Photo The player to watch for SMU is quarterback Garrett Gilbert. He ranks third in the nation averaging 393.5 yards of total offence, and ranks fourth for his 352.5 yards passing a game. He currently leads the pack with 38 completions per game. There are a few key A&M key players to keep an eye on as they play a heavy offence. Two main players are obviously quarterback Johnny Manziel and wide receiver Mike Evans. They made beautiful plays last week against Alabama. I believe they will continue to connect against SMU. Leading the country, Evans has 518 yards passing. He broke the Texas A&M record of 250 yards, with 279 against Alabama. While these play-makers will be a huge part in Saturday’s game, there are things that Texas A&M needs to work on if they want to end up on top. They need to hit a big lead and do it early. All of The Aggie’s starters were in for the entire game against Alabama last week. Therefore, they need to set a huge gap between themselves and SMU so their younger players can get some action and the starters can avoid injury. Texas A&M has no problem racking up the points. When Manziel is on his game he can keep the score rolling on. That being said the defense needs to makes some stops. Their defense struggled last week against No. 1 Alabama, but they have also wavered against Rice and Sam Houston State. They have gotten back key defensive starters off suspension, therefore there should be some improvement. If not, then this season will be a struggle. The Aggies aren’t lacking in spirit, so we know the fans and the team want that W. Texas A&M will get just that if defensive coordinator Mark Snyder can find what works for his line. This game will be interesting to watch because I for one want to see the defense show up to the game. If Texas A&M can get that under control, then there is no stopping this SEC driving force.
