When Texas A&M played Alabama in their third game of the season quarterback Johnny Manziel connected beautifully with wide receiver Mike Evans. Who was this 6-foot-5 red-shirt sophomore that gave the Crimson Tide a run for their money? Evans is a play maker who is quick on his feet despite his size. With that being said, let’s take a look at his past year at Texas A&M: 2011: Redshirted. Freshman Year (2012): Evans started in all 13 games at wide receiver and was a 2012 Freshman All-SEC selection. He impressively led The Aggies with 82 catches for 1,105 yards. His 82 catches rank No. 2 in school history and his receiving yards rank No.3. He also averaged 85.2 receiving yards per game. Evans also had three 100-yard games at SMU, at Ole Miss and vs Louisiana Tech. His longest catch of the season was a 75-yard catch against Louisiana Tech. David J. Phillip/ AP Sophomore Year (2013): Evan’s standout season’s highlight has to be his amazing performance against No. 1 Alabama. He had 279 receiving yards on seven catches. That included a 95-yard score against Alabama. That performance in itself has put him directly on the NFL’s radar. Evans has shown that he is an athletic play maker. He has a deceptive speed about him that makes him a huge threat on deep routes. Evans is a bigger receiver who makes shaking off defenders look like child’s play. The former basketball player has amazing hand eye coordination that’s shown when he attacks the ball any chance he gets. Evans has a unique ability to turn short passes into a huge gain due to the fact that he can take hits and still march on. Altogether Evans has an amazing talent that will be clutch when Texas A&M plays top SEC teams. Hopefully Evans can continue to connect with Manziel to make game winning plays that can get his team winning championships.
