Johnny Wilson committed to Arizona State as a four-star recruit for the 2020 season. Wilson played in three games during the COVID-19-shortened season, recording six receptions for 89 yards. Wilson redshirted in his true freshman season. 

Wilson appeared in five games during his redshirt freshman season, recording 12 receptions for 154 yards and one touchdown. Wilson missed eight games because of a hamstring injury and entered the transfer portal after the 2021 season.
