The Michigan Wolverines will host the Illinois Fighting Illini on Saturday afternoon. One team seems to be headed in the right direction the other not so much. Michigan is coming off an impressive road win against Purdue and Illinois is coming off back to back drubbings to Penn St. and Wisconsin. Michigan and Illinois both rely pretty heavily on their QB’s and it will be the determining factor Saturday. Denard looked real sound Saturday against Purdue managing the game really well and not turning the ball over. When he threw it was accurate and when he ran he ran the ball well. Needless to Denard Robinson for Michigan and Nathan Scheelhaase of Illinois do the brunt of the offensive work. After the big win at Ross-Ade Stadium the Wolverines are back at home and are favored by more than three touchdowns. Head coach Tim Beckman for Illinois will be looking for lightening in a bottle to get his offense firing. The Michigan defense better be ready for all things possible Saturday with a team with nothing to lose. If the Wolverines can manage the game like they did against Purdue they should have no problem. Illinois will have problems against a gelling Michigan defense that looks better every week. If Michigan’s offense can give the defense a lead it will open up Defensive Coordinator Greg Mattson’s playbook and will cause a struggling offense in Illinois to force tight balls and possible turnovers. The key is game management against Illinois, when the Wolverines play like they did against Purdue they look like an entirely different team than we saw the first four weeks.
