The Pat McAfee Show Puts Up Big Numbers in First Full Month at ESPN
USA TODAY Sports

Day by day, former West Virginia punter/kicker Pat McAfee continues to prove everyone wrong in his career after football.

Many thought his early retirement from the NFL to start a podcast was the dumbest decision he could have possibly made. Little did they know, McAfee and his crew would build a gigantic audience and because of it, they were able to land partnership deals with other businesses, turning it into a full-time job.

This past May, McAfee announced that his show would be moving to ESPN in September. Much of his core audience thought it could destroy the show because of how they wouldn't be able to "be themselves". A month into the marriage with the worldwide leader in sports, things are going extremely well.

McAfee revealed the numbers of how well the show has done in its first four weeks.

"The messages I was getting from people about how much I let them down, and how big of a fraud I am, and how big of a sellout I am - all these things were terrible. I knew in my heart to hearts that we weren't going to change whenever we go to ESPN. Maybe we won't say the 'F' word, okay? That's just because we're going to be good business partners with these people who are about to give us a platform that is massive. We did not know what the ESPN people were going to think of us because...BOY, we thought they were going to hate us. Now, there's still a long way to go, but it does feel as if what we are doing is potentially working a little bit. It feels like we're really doing it and it's bananas to think about."
