Are we REALLY surprised that USC loss to Stanford?!I mean, come on!Now I may be biased, being that I was born and raised in the South. If you think so that's fine, but USC should've never had a pre-season ranking of No. 1. It just should not have happened. It was a true "slap in the face" to both Alabama and LSU. I understand that Lane Kiffen (Head Coach), Max Nikias (President of the USC), and Pat Haden (Athletic Director), had a foolproof plan to delay the scholarship sanctions.Sure, you have Matt Barkley, a Heisman favorite, who turned down the NFL draft. I'm sure that after it's all said and done, Barkley will be expecting some sort of statue of himself outside of Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. Maybe even the Rose Bowl. With their superstar quarterback returning, USC clearly had their sights set on starting another decade of dominance. "Could things get any better? But of course!"Not only did USC get Barkley back, they landed Penn State's mo...

Week 3 Heisman Watch: Geno Smith leads wide-open race as Matt Barkley falters

Week 3 of the college football season is in the books, and the race for the 2012 Heisman Trophy has been dramatically altered. USC’s Matt Barkley is the latest preseason favorite to stumble, throwing two interceptions in a huge loss to Stanford. If you had told me before the year began that Barkley, Denard Robinson and Montee Ball would all be out [...]

Barkley unfazed being winless vs. Cardinal

LOS ANGELES --- Its not easy to catch USC quarterback Matt Barkley off guard. He knew what facing Stanford was going to bring before he touched the practice field for the first time during Stanford week on Tuesday talk about him being winless against Stanford. Thats the story of the week, said Barkley during the Trojans first day of preparation for the Cardinal. So, he was left...

Stanford delivers blow to Barkley, USC

STANFORD, Calif. Matt Barkley, after the visitor's locker room had cleared out, stepped into the night and stood in front of a table that had food splayed on it for the USC football players. Barkley took a burrito wrapped in foil, a sport drink and walked up the long flight of stairs to the team bus. It was hard to imagine much of anything tasting good. Barkley, who might...

Reality smacks Matt Barkley and USC

I’ve never been a Lane Kiffin fan, and I’m hardly alone. Kiffin comes across as an arrogant punk, and frankly he’s done little as a head coach to inspire much confidence. He’s been a good recruiter at USC, but I wasn’t surprised to see USC lay another egg against Stanford last night. Yeah, it’s over. The idea of a perfect Trojans season. The idea of an easy Matt Barkley...

Matt Barkley, Geno Smith Deadlocked for Heisman?

Is the Heisman race already heating up?Matt Barkley didn’t have a strong showing on Saturday against No. 21-ranked Stanford. In fact, he threw no touchdowns and two interceptions and was sacked four times. Doesn’t sound like a Heisman-winning performance. So where does that leave West Virginia’s star quarterback Geno Smith?Smith converted 34 of 39 passes for 411 yards, five...

Stanford downs No. 2 USC 21-14

If USC is Superman, Stanford is their kryptonite as the Cardinal downed the Trojans 21-14. The win marked Stanford’s fourth straight victory over their Southern California rivals who looked very mediocre all night long. The Trojans managed just 27 yards rushing on 23 attempts and allowed the Stanford defense to sack QB Matt Barkley five times including twice in USC’s final drives.

No. 2 USC upset again by No. 21 Stanford
