Texas Tech head coach Tommy Tuberville caused quite a stir on Saturday when he angrily ripped a headseat off of graduate assistant Kevin Oliver during the Red Raiders’ overtime win against Kansas. Tuberville was publicly reprimanded by the Big 12 conference for the incident, but there is a chance he could be suspended for the incident. Following the game Tuberville said that he had just grabbed Oliver’s shoulder to move him off the field, which was an outright lie. But on Monday he was singing a different tune and seemed to admit that he was wrong. Video of the incident after the jump. Here is what he said during his press conference on Monday: “After watching the film when I got home, it was obvious what a lot of people were upset about. It upset me too. You don’t do things like that, and it was obvious I reached up, grabbed his headset and pulled on it.” “Heat of the battle, some things happen, and sometimes you’d like to take back. I can’t remember anything like that happening to me. But that was a tough game. We’re fighting hard. I’ve apologized to Kevin. We talked. Of course, we talked 30 seconds after that for the rest of the game, because I talk to him more on the head set than I do anybody else because he helps me chart special teams. I’ve got to hold myself to a higher regard than that, and I usually do.” Tuberville’s admission of guilt could help him if the Big 12 decides to consider taking action against him. His statement Monday was a clear reversal of his stance from Saturday and made him look a whole lot better than he first did. Still, some believe a suspension could come down if the Big 12 wants to send a message to its coaches. Remember, Tuberville is taking over for a guy who was run out of town for the way he treated his players.

  • What a joke, the people in charge at Texas Tech have NO BALLS....this moron needs to be fired for what he did. And his sorry ass press conference to try to justify it was a joke also.
