This is one way to convince a recruit to attend your school. Pat Smith, a kicker from Western Illinois University, has been checking out schools to transfer to, and the Nebraska Cornhuskers were on his list. He certainly didn’t think that breaking the law would be the thing to help sway his decision to play in Lincoln next year. While traveling to the campus for a visit last weekend, Smith was pulled over shortly after crossing the state-line from Iowa. He was speeding, and as everyone knows, you never speed near the border of states, there is always a trooper waiting. But Smith was going a little too fast and was in danger of getting a ticket, something that nobody likes to get. Great start to the weekend, right? This is when faith intervened. Or, better yet, a dedicated Cornhusker fan. Asked where he was headed, Smith explained he was exploring the possibility of transferring from Western Illinois University and making this his official visit to the Big Ten Conference school. “He took my insurance card and went back to his car,” said Smith, a kicker and punter who recently completed his junior season at WIU as one of 10 [...]
