As Notre Dame hosts a number of top targets at camps this weekend, it wouldn’t be surprising to see the Irish pick up some commitments. Notre Dame received its first commitment of the weekend Friday evening when Tyler Newsome, a punter from Carrollton High School in Georgia, became the latest member of the class of 2014:
Officially committed to the University of Notre Dame. What a blessing. #FightingIrish

Jamie Kohl, director of Kohl’s Kicking Camps, ranked Newsome as the No. 6 punter in the class of 2014.
While most Irish fans will probably not get excited over the commitment of a punter, Newsome is an important pickup for a team short on special teams depth. Junior Kyle Brindza, Notre Dame’s full-time kicker, is also slated to punt for the upcoming season. Notre Dame’s only other option beyond this season is incoming freshman Andrew Antognoli, a preferred walk-on.
