Since becoming the USC football head coach, Lane Kiffin has received a lot of flak from Trojan fans. When former athletic director Mike Garrett brought Kiffin in, he expected it to be a smooth transition because of his ties to Pete Carroll, being his previous offense coordinator.
Kiffin’s first year was not easy as he USC football program was hit with tough sanctions. Also, Pat Haden replaced one of his biggest supporters in Garrett and in the process Kiffin lost some players to transfers. Kiffin was fortunate enough to have his starting quarterback Matt Barkley remain on the team.
The 2010 football team finished with a respectable 8-5 record and the team came back roaring with a 10-2 finish the following season. This kept many USC fans quite for the time being.

The 2012 football season was predicted to end in a BSC bowl matchup, but turned into a Georgia Tech embarrassment at the Sun Bowl. The city of L.A. was clamoring for Kiffin to resign.
Heading into the 2013 season, many believed that Kiffin was on the hot seat if the Trojans did not perform well. Haden quickly quieted those rumors in video released for the Pac-12 media day.
“I’m behind Lane Kiffin one hundred percent,” said Haden. “ I have great confidence in him. He’s a very hard-working, detail-oriented coach. He’s a dynamic play-caller in my estimation and he’s an exceptional recruiter.”
Since Haden’s arrival to USC, the program has had a facelift. He has removed any association to former athletes that put the university in a bad position and has punished those who intended to tarnish the image further.
Pat Haden’s vote of confidence is one that many USC football fans should stand behind. He has done everything possible to keep the prestige of the university and does it all with his best interest for the program.
After all Kiffin is an excellent recruiter and is doing it well with less scholarships. He was also the mastermind behind the 2005 USC Trojans that came short of winning its third National Championship.
Kiffin’s team has been handed an easy schedule this year. If he finishes the season with double-digit wins, you can be assured he will be back the following season. Anything short of that and we might be back at the beginning.
