PLAYERS: Joe Paterno
Work crews removed the 7-foot tall, 900-pound bronze statue of former Penn State head football coach Joe Paterno Sunday morning. It took just 40 minutes. Kevin Berkon, 23, of Washington, D.C., and Mike Elliott, 23, of Lancaster, camped out at the statue since Tuesday. They were some of the only Penn State students at the scene. "I'm extremely disappointed with how they are doing it," Berkon told the Centre Daily Times. "JoePa means the world to a lot of students, and they should have a right to be here."

  • This was inevitable, this man knew for a decade that this was going on. (And if anyone doesn't believe that, they must also believe OJ didn't murder his wife and Ron Goldman) If you only drive the getaway car in a bank robbery where someone gets murdered YOU ARE STILL AN ACCESSORY TO THE CRIME, PERIOD!!!!!! Just who in the hell did Paterno think he was to stay silent about this after it was obvious that Spanier, Curley and Schultz were doing NOTHING with the information they received a decade ago about that Stinking Pedophile Sandusky. And if there is any justice at all, these Three Stooges will do some time for obstruction of justice and contributing to the endangerment of minors.

A Tarnished Legacy: Penn State Football

Only empty outlines of football players remain on a concrete wall where Joe Paterno's statue once stood. This image is truly symbolic of what remains of a tarnished football program. The focus on football has disappeared as heinous actions have reared their ugly head. It has been discovered in recent weeks that Joe Paterno and his staff at Penn State covered up the actions...

Penn State President: Joe Paterno Statue Removed

After many rumors, Penn State President Rodney Erickson issued a statement on his decision on the fate of Joe Paterno‘s statue and name association with the campus library. I now believe that, contrary to its original intention, Coach Paterno’s statue has become a source of division and an obstacle to healing in our University and beyond. For that reason, I have decided that...

Report: The Joe Paterno Statue will be taken down by Penn State this weekend

The timing of this decision seems very convenient. There’s a huge national news story in the Aurora Theater Shootings which will overshadow any other news for at least the next week. Looks to me like PSU wants to do away with this situation with as little...

ACC coaches open to Penn State transfers

Greensboro, NC The NCAA's punishment of Penn State wasn't exactly what the ACC's 12 head coaches wanted to address Monday at the ACC Football Kickoff. But it was unavoidable. A quick thought on the NCAA sanctions against Penn State

Well done. While the penalties the NCAA imposed on Penn State this morning may seem harsh to some - $60 million in fines to be put toward external programs to prevent child abuse and/or help child abuse victims, 4-year postseason ban, a reduction in scholarships, 5 years probation, and 13 years of won games erased from Joe Paterno's record and the schools record - I'm relieved...

If Something is Unprecedented is it Good?

I promise this is the last thing I'm going to write about the situation at Penn State, after this post I am moving on -- turning my gaze inward and getting back to what makes this site tolerable to most of you, discussion of all things UMass. However, before I move on I wanted to talk about the punishment handed down by the NCAA yesterday (July 23, 2012), the impact of which...
