When you watched MJ you would wonder if there was anything he couldn't do. When he retired the first time and started playing baseball we found out he couldn't, but everyone was half expecting him to start jacking balls out of the park because well, HE NEVER SEEMED TO FAIL. It was like watching Superman fly. You couldn't seem to believe he was doing the things he was doing even when you saw it. Kobe's just a (great) basketball player.

And MJ had cool sneakers, and was just a nice guy.

That type if thinking is why Nike and Jordan charge outrageous prices for his shoe a shoe is a shoe. I would be more impressed with his shoe if he made them more affordable for the kids that are his fans. How long is he going to milk those retro's. I seen a pair in Foot locker that cost over $300. Maybe he and Kobe both need to follow the lead of Stephan Marbury and make a shoe of the same quality and sell it for $15.00.

Really? I was a kid like in fourth grade and he was the biggest icon. All of the stuff that I remember was released in the media was positive. I did hear a lot of people say he was a show boater, or a ball hog. And then people were getting jumped for their jordans on the train. That was a LONG time a go for me to remember anything about him. I just remember my dad being pissed because when he came along there was the whole 'Jordan vs Bird' and by that time Bird was old, and he beat him each time. :(

Michael played with heart and class. Kobe plays for himself and no one else. Case in point--last night, down 6, 3 seconds to play...Kobe walked off the floor after the missed free throw...left his team running down for a meaningless shot....he left them...our "MVP" showed his ass and walked off the floor..

We all know Kobe isn't MJ...so why do we have this conversation, i think people just love to hate Kobe..straight up, but whether people like it or not, he is going to be in the Hall of Fame, and he IS one of the greatest players to ever play the game. Is he the best to ever grace a basketball court, no, but your right he isn't MJ, he is Kobe, and he is great for who he is, not whom he's not..

He will win a couple of more, this one ain't over yet. Kobe is one player that I never say can't or won't do something, this is the man that scored 80+ points in a game. I don't think most players could even shoot that many baskets in a game, please. I use to hate Kobe, but I realized that he is one of the elite few players in the NBA that are devoted to the game and not to the life. The man puts in the work and deserve to be MVP and has the right to get mad at his teammates when they play like amatuers. He'd be better off with Lisa and Candace instead of Gasol and Odom.

Tilly - Im with u - i was a Kobe hater (due to being a mad Jordan fan and hated the comparisons) but as a TRUE FAN of basketball - I would b an idiot to NOT give Kobe his love and respect. Is he Jordan - NO! Is he the closet thing we have or may ever have to Jordan - YES!

People please Understand its a generation thing..It depends on who you ask. Ask your Grand Dad he would say Michael could never do the things Dr. J could and if you ask Us, Kobe could never do the things Michael could and when my kids get older you will not be able to say anything negative about Kobe. The 2030 Generation will not be comparing the best basketball player to MJ. Because they hadn't lived the MJ era. and change in the rules will also play a big factor....All they would say about MJ is that he was a great player. But that 2030 kid could take mike to the rim .
