The Vols offense is at its best in attack mode. They've had some big moments in 2023, but the key that propelled them against the best defense they faced was wide receiver Squirrel White. Tennessee opened the game against Alabama firing, targeting White numerous times in the first ten minutes of action.
He went over 100 yards in the first half, and Tennessee had a two-score lead. He didn't see nearly as much action in the second half, which was one of the reasons they went stagnant. Tennessee has to face Georgia's defense this weekend, a unit that has been the top group in college football over the past three years.
The strong point of the Bulldogs' defense is their secondary, littered with pending NFL draft picks. They play with refined technique and physicality, but you can't avoid playing their game. White has remained physical throughout his routes this year and has the speed to push these defensive backs vertically. There isn't a correct formula to beat Georgia in the passing game, but given Tennessee's offense, chunk plays would be the optimum outcome.
