Mississippi State started its second season with the best performance of the year Wednesday night at Georgia Dome.
Shooting a season-best 59.3 percent from the field, Mississippi State blitzed past Vanderbilt 82-68 in an opening-round game of the Southeastern Conference Men’s Basketball Tournament.
Heading into Wednesday’s final round with the lead, the Mississippi State women’s golf team won the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational on Marines Corps Base Hawaii in Kaneohe, Hawaii, by 21 shots, while four Bulldogs claimed top-10 finishes.

Mississippi State and Dan Mullen have agreed in principle to a contract extension running through 2017-18 season, according to a source.
Mullen's contract can't run longer than four years because of Mississippi regulations, so the Bulldogs are essentially adding a year to Mullen's deal. The deal is not yet finalized.
