In the middle order, India has had batters like Virat Kohli, MS Dhoni, Gautam Gambhir, Yuvraj Singh, Mohammad Azharuddin, Rahul Dravid, Suresh Raina, and many others. Most of them played a key role in India's title wins in ODIs, proving their importance in the team. Some of them scored a lot of runs against an opponent away from home.

Virat Kohli toured South Africa in 2017/18, where he delivered arguably the greatest performance in a bilateral series. The star batter scored 558 runs in 7 matches, which is the most for a batter in a bilateral ODI series. Apart from that, he has played some crucial knocks in other instances against the Proteas away from home.
Virat Kohli has been brilliant away from home against many teams, one of which is Sri Lanka. Against the 1996 ODI World Cup Champions, Virat has 923 runs outside home, which is the highest against an opponent for him in ODIs. Arguably the best knock of his career, 133 in Hobart in 2012, came against Sri Lanka.
Sachin Tendulkar is arguably the greatest batter cricket has ever seen. His record in ODIs is impeccable. Against Sri Lanka, he particularly performed well away from home. The veteran scored 1023 runs against the Asian side away from home and made an impact with his batting.
MS Dhoni is one of the greatest cricketers ever produced by India. The former Indian skipper had a good record against Sri Lanka in ODIs away from home. He amassed 1028 runs against the island nation, which is the second most for an Indian batter against an opponent in ODIs. He held on to the record for over six years after surpassing Tendulkar.
Rohit Sharma scored 73(97) in the second ODI of the 2025 series against Australia at the Adelaide Oval, which helped him create a new record. In the process, Sharma overtook Dhoni to hold the record. Against Australia, Rohit has 1071 runs away from home in ODIs. Some of his greatest knocks have come against Australia, especially outside of the home conditions.
