Ishan Kishan has opted out of the five-match Test series against England due to ‘mental fatigue’. He wanted to take a break after constant traveling with the team. Though he was part of the squads for many series, he had to warm the bench most of the time.

Rahul Dravid, India’s head coach, appeared for the traditional post-match press after India’s 106-run win over England in the second Test. When he was asked about Kishan’s return, Dravid said the 25-year-old needs to play some cricket when he is ready to join the national side.

Dravid also said that the management has no problem giving Kishan the break he has requested. The coach asserted that he did not say Kishan needed to play domestic cricket to come back, clarifying that the youngster has to play some cricket when he is ready and make a comeback.

Whenever he is ready, I didn’t say he has to play domestic cricket, I said whenever he is ready… he needs to play some cricket and come back. The choice is his. We are not forcing him to do anything. We are in touch with him.

Rahul Dravid reveals management doesn’t ask for rank turners

In 2021, when England toured India, the matches were played on rank turners, and they used to end within three days. But both the matches of the current series ended within four days.

While the first match in Hyderabad was played on a turner, in Vizag, it remained a flat pitch most of the time. Rahul Dravid was asked in the press conference about what sort of pitch will be prepared for the next three Tests.

The head coach said that like everyone else, he is also completely clueless about the kind of pitches prepared for the matches. He revealed that the management doesn’t ask for rank turners and that it’s up to the curators who prepare the pitches.

India, meanwhile, have leveled the five-match Test series 1-1. The third Test in Rajkot is scheduled to start on February 15.
