New South Wales all-rounder Jack Edwards has been drafted into the international squad for the first time as Australia announce the team for the final ODI in Sydney while Glenn Maxwell and Ben Dwarshuis are fit to return for the latter stages of the ensuing T20I series against India, with young West Australian quick Mahli Beardman also earning a call-up for the T20Is.

Cricket Australia made a spate of changes to the two white-ball squads on Friday with Marnus Labuschagne released from the ODI squad ahead of the dead rubber in Sydney to prepare for Queensland’s Sheffield Shield clash with New South Wales that begins on Tuesday at the Gabba.

While valid excuses could be made by the visiting Indian team for the truncated rain-affected opener in Perth, India were generally outplayed in the second ODI and could never quite make amends after the early departures of captain Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli, who bagged a second consecutive duck for the first time in his legendary ODI career. Safe to say, his much-awaited return to international cricket couldn’t have been poorer.

The champion batter was dismissed chasing a wide delivery by Mitchell Starc in the first ODI, and fell leg-before-wicket to an inswinger by Xavier Bartlett in the second ODI.
