PLAYERS: Lance Armstrong
As someone who has been such a huge fan of Lance Armstrong for so many years, last night was a tough pill to swallow. Lance Armstrong probably lost a lot of fans with the statement he decided to release yesterday. While there was no admission of guilt in the 800+ words, there was an admission of surrender. His decision to stop his fight against those who have long accused him of doping has opened the door for quite a bit of scrutiny. Sorry, Travis. You can’t change that. This changes nothing for me, of course. In 1999 I cared little about what a bicycle did besides taking me from a-to-b. By the end of his seven-year run I actually cared about the Tour de France and held Armstrong as one of the athletes that I have a supreme admiration for. That admiration will remain, no matter what Travis Tygart says. As nearly every commentary on Armstrong’s decision has indicated, his decision to quit or give up on something seems strange. As someone who has always fought back and...

Armstrong says he's 7-time Tour de France champ

Lance Armstrong introduced himself as a seven-time Tour de France champion at a cancer conference in Montreal on Wednesday. ''My name is Lance Armstrong. I am a cancer survivor,'' he said to open his speech to the World Cancer Congress. ''I'm a father of five. And yes, I won the Tour de France seven times.'' Armstrong announced last week he would...

FFC praises USADA for erasing Armstrong's titles

The French Cycling Federation is praising the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency for erasing Lance Armstrong's seven Tour de France titles because of doping. Armstrong announced last week he would no longer challenge the USADA's drug charges against him. USADA then threw out his competitive victories dating to 1998 and banned him for life from the sport. In a statement Thursday, the...

USDA: Lance Armstrong could’ve kept five Tour de France titles if he had “come in and been truthful”

We’ve already gave you quite enough evidence to prove to that no one cares if Lance Armstrong cheated to win seven Tour de France titles. Well, almost no one. It seems that the USDA cares. Not because they’re anti-doping, which they are. But because it’s now clear that they REALLY wanted to nail Armstrong. We were initially skeptical of Armstrong when he accused the USDA of...

Lance Armstrong's Legacy Destroyed As Allegations Finally Catch Up With Former Hero

Nobody will ever be able to take away what Lance Armstrong did in defeating cancer and then raising money and awareness to try and find a cure. Everything else, however, is just about gone for Armstrong. Armstrong's fame was always rooted in the success he found on a bicycle. The awareness and fame that he got was routed deeply in riding his bike. So when he decided to drop his...

Lance Armstrong Story Leaves Me Feeling Dirty

The news that the US Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) stripped Lance Armstrong of his seven Tour de France titles left me feeling as if I needed a shower. Something about the whole sorry saga seems dirty, as if deals and agreements were secretly brokered behind closed doors in smoke-filled rooms. Or as if the unexplained vendetta of a few zealots had finally won the day. Armstrong'...

Lance Armstrong’s Legacy Still Intact Despite Doping

Lance Armstrong is the star that lost its luster. The star that’s shine dimmed. The star stripped of all seven glorious Tour de France titles. Lance Armstrong, however, is still a star. He is still the star who miraculously found strength where many saw death, the same man who rose from the nadirs of cancer to the zeniths of success. Most importantly of all, he is still the most...

Armstrong announced last week he would no longer fight the doping allegations that have dogged him for years. He was subsequently stripped of his record seven Tour de France titles and banned from professional cycling. But in...

Hamilton: Armstrong helped me cheat

Tyler Hamilton says Lance Armstrong gave him an illegal blood booster at his house before the 1999 Tour de France and the two teammates compared notes on using performance-enhancing drugs as far back as 1998.

Should pro leagues allow PEDs?

If Lance Armstrong is the biggest lie in sports, Lyle Alzado was its spawn. It has been 20 years since the brain cancer wasted away and eventually killed the once-hulking former NFL lineman. Steroids had been made a controlled substance by Congress a couple of years earlier, but the images of a gaunt Alzado and his assertions that steroid use had led to his illness did more to demonize...

Jose Canseco supports Lance Armstrong and being a Vampire

Jose Canseco is now a columnist, of some sort. After all, what else is he supposed to these days? The former AL MVP and former MLB All-Star who once claimed to have been blackballed by Bud Selig and the league, fancies himself an expert on steroids. So he took the time to write a piece [...]
