Mortal, known for producing hand-crafted kombucha like Black Magic and Marg Simpson, recently launched a new product line: hydration mix. Mortal Hydration, offered exclusively through The Feed, is available in neon-colored packets depicting fists clenching fruits that give way to punchy flavors such as Berry, Mango, and Margarita. The Men’s Journal staff tested the new mixes.

Mortal Hydration was formulated by Dr. Kevin Sprouse, medical and sports science director for Team EF, and is designed to ensure optimal hydration for any endurance sport.

All Mortal hydration mixes are made with evaporated cane syrup, dextrose, trisodium citrate, citric acid, salt, natural flavors, tripotassium citrate, calcium lactate pentahydrate, magnesium glycinate, stevia rebaudioside A, and quercetin.

Each flavor is available with two sodium options. Mortal’s developer Becca Schepps recommends reaching for regular flavors with 450 milligrams of sodium during normal workout conditions. When doing more intense endurance activities or exercising in higher temperatures, Schepps recommends opting for any of the salty flavors which offer 920 milligrams of sodium.

In addition to customizable sodium options, Mortal sets itself apart with single-serve packets formulated for 22 or 26-ounce bottles. So whether you’re prepping for a ride, refilling on the go, or blending flavors, the single-serve packets make it easy and mess-free.

Why we like it:

If you’re searching for a hydration option but haven’t found a brand or flavor you want to stick with, Mortal makes it easy to try all flavors without committing to a bulk serving or over-scooping to get that desired taste.
