Jim Belushi files for divorce, ending 23-year marriage to Jennifer Sloan

Jim Belushi and Jennifer Sloan are officially breaking up.

According to USA Today, Belushi filed for divorce from Sloan—listed as Jennifer Blair Belushi—on Friday (Aug. 6) in Los Angeles. The couple had been married since May 1998, and they have 22-year-old Jamison and 19-year-old Jared.

This filing comes just over three years after Sloan filed for divorce in March 2018. That time, they reconciled by May 2019.

Last month, Belushi referenced his two previous divorces—the 67-year-old actor and comedian was first married to Sandy Davenport (1980-88) and then Marjorie Bransfield (1990-92)—while describing how he became the first cast member to get fired and subsequently rehired during his short but memorable two-season run at Saturday Night Live.

"I was out of control," he told Vulture for an interview published July 14. "It was the best thing to ever happen to me. I was out of my mind. I was throwing a fire extinguisher at Dick Ebersol, a hissy fit. SNL is the hardest thing I ever did, and that's including divorce. I survived it, barely. I went back to him with my tail between my legs. I drop the ego, I got humble. I stopped drinking the rest of that season."

Belushi put acting and comedy on the back-burner in recent years to focus his energy on Belushi's Farm, his cannabis farm. For a Hollywood Reporter profile in August 2020 exploring why he decided to reinvent himself as a cannabis farmer, he skirted the state of his marriage: "I can't go there. As of this moment, we're still together."

As for the state of Belushi's career in entertainment, he still plans on carrying on the legacy of his late brother, the great John Belushi, with the Blues Brothers.

"We are presently talking with House of Blues about setting up a tour for next spring," Belushi, who joined SNL alumnus Dan Aykroyd in Blues Brothers after John's death by overdose at 33 years old in 1982, added to Vulture. "Danny doesn’t like to do more than two shows in a row, so I'm not sure what kind of tour that would look like: Record new material, have a lot of guest stars. We would film it and make a little documentary on it."
