Marlon Wayans: 'I think 'White Chicks 2' is necessary'

Marlon Wayans hasn't hid his desire to finally make the White Chicks sequel, and he became even more assertive this week.

"I think White Chicks 2 is necessary," the actor, comedian and filmmaker told Variety. "I think we've tightened up so much that we need to loosen our ties a bit and laugh a little bit. I don't think Hollywood understands what a juggernaut White Chicks 2 would be."

Variety's Marc Malkin wrote that Marlon and his brother, Shawn Wayans, "have plenty of story ideas."

"And the world just keeps giving us more," Wayans continued. "White Chicks 2 is writing itself."

The original White Chicks premiered in June 2004. Written by Marlon, Shawn and Keenen Ivory Wayans—and directed by Keenen Ivory—the crime comedy starred Marlon and Shawn as disgraced FBI agents Marcus Copeland and Kevin Copeland respectively. Marcus and Kevin have to protect wealthy white socialite twins Brittany Wilson (Maitland Ward) and Tiffany Wilson (Anne Dudek) from a kidnapper.

Things go awry, so the two men have to go undercover as the heiresses to complete their task.

Wayans credited Paris and Nicky Hilton with inspired the White Chicks plot in late June:

And while that fueled the appetite for a sequel, Wayans previously shared during a Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen appearance last October that he and his brother were "working toward it":

In the meantime, Wayans can be seen in the Aretha Franklin biopic Respect , which hit theaters Friday (Aug. 13). The 49-year-old portrays the late Queen of Soul's ex-husband and manager Ted White, while Franklin is posthumously played by Jennifer Hudson.

Wayans also has a stand-up special titled Marlon Wayans: You Know What It Is coming to HBO Max on Aug. 19, which falls under the overall deal he signed with the streamer in June 2020.
