As part of the promotional tour surrounding her appearance on the cover of the 2013 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue, a much warmer and more appropriately dressed Kate Upton appeared on the Today show on Tuesday morning to describe the harrowing experience she and the rest of the photo shoot party endured to capture the breathtaking images of her posing in a bikini in a freezing Antarctica for this year’s issue.

Via Today:

“I was very surprised by the news that that’s where my shoot was going to be located,’’ she said on TODAY Tuesday in her first interview since making the cover. “It was freezing. I’m from Florida, so it wasn’t great for me. When I came back I was losing hearing and eyesight because my body was shutting down, it was working so hard to keep warm. I was thinking warm thoughts.

“I could really only do it for a minute and then everyone would come running and throw blankets on top of me and they would build me like a little blanket cave. I really went all out on this. We went there thinking we might not even get a shot, and came back with the cover.”

Despite the brutally adverse conditions, Upton nevertheless managed to take in the wondrous splendor of the frozen yet majestic Antarctica surroundings, saying, “It was the most beautiful place I’ve ever been,’’ and adding, “Before I took off my coat, I would just enjoy the views. The mountains were pink and the water was glass. It was like little ice cubes were in the water. It was gorgeous.’’

Upton added that she was inspired by the local wildlife. “The penguins kept me going,’’ she said. “They’re adorable, and any time I was like, ‘I can’t take any more, I can’t,’ I would look at them and I was like, ‘OK, for them.’’’

  • This is the cover of SI this month!!!!! I'm speechless. It looks like the cover of Playboy!! What is wrong with our young girls today who are so willing to do anything for fame and money and attention. Her parents must be so proud. Wouldn't you just love your dad and brothers to see you this way? How do women get passed that? I'm am sickened.
  • You obviously either a) have no children b) are a child molester and/or c) are a sick perv. THIS is what is wrong with society!!! The first comment is SPOT ON! What IS wrong with these girls? Damn...no wonder women are always getting raped! kidnapped for sex trade.....these are not women doing this to men! Its sick-o men who are addicted to this crap!

  • She looks absolutely beautiful, what is wrong with you that you have to attack somebody for being comfortable with their own body and want to show their beauty. You must have some very deep down issues with women or something.
  • Your parents are about as proud of your lousy grammer and spellin'.
  • I thought one of our founding principals was the right of free speech.
  • I think this guy is exercising that right.
  • Get over yourself and step off the soapbox.
  • go stick your head in an oven and strike a match you backwoods anomaly i wish my sister could make that kind of cash with her looks which is probably why you don't approve in the first place you probably have to sneak up to a glass of water just to get a sip
  • Wah! Wah! You were cold. I'm sure your were well paid, next year don't do it if your going to whine.
  • ... SPORTS ILLUSTRATED? Doesn't look like that's what they are illustrating AT ALL!

Desperate to get money from men thinking with the wrong head if you asked me. Wonderful (sarcasm)
  • She is beautiful. Too bad about the wacko prudes who simply can't seem to recognize that. Don't read the SI Swimsuit Issue if you are offended by a person who is actually physically fit and takes care of their skin and body, instead of being a fat slob downing a gallon of soda per day and being a couch potato...you prudes have nothing to say. Go back to your twinkies now.
  • LOVE THIS!!!! : )
  • Something about this gal's body looks off.. I don't think the picture shows anything more then any other bikini-clad model's photograph, perhaps not even as much as most.. However, doesn't her head look small for her body and her boobs look HUGE in proportion to the rest of her?
  • The location shoot is the dumbist thing I ever heard of; is it really important for a woman that men want to objectify to have her body almost shut down for nearly nude shots?! Unbelievably stupid!
  • There is nothing wrong with the photo or the model. The location is a little confusing, but I'm sure there was plenty of opportunities to get warm. For the people posting on here that are saying this is "porn" or "Playboy" wtf are you talking about? Just because she doesn't look like the typical 250lb lard ass known as the American women doesn't mean there is anything wrong with her
  • All I know is I would eat the lining outta Kate's#$%%&.
  • She can do whatever she wants with her untoned, implanted body ...but don't shove it in everyone's face...Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue is nothing but a lame excuse for guys to look at porn and 20 yr old girls..."just looking at the locale shots" my ass! SI spends all this money to tote these whores around the world...they could take pics in the back alley and guys would buy it! Are you for real? Everywhere you turn...this magazine is on the checkout lines when I'm with my kids...it's on tv...its all over the internet...when are men going to grow up.(oh, right...never!)..keep your porn on your office internet! Do me a favor all who have some morals...when you are in the checkout line, put a Good Housekeeping magazine in front of any kind of magazine like this! That's what I do! Men can't find anything unless it's right in their face, so if no one buys it...maybe they'll stop making it! And if this is supposed to be showing swimsuits...(wait, I'm laughing so hard, I can't see!) most of the time they are holding a top you can't see or not wearing one! or painted on! What a joke!
  • Sounds like someone has some man issues. This hardly equals pornography. Have you ever been to Europe? Shampoo adds in Europe are worse than anything in SI's swimsuit edition. Calling these women whores hardly seems like something that would come from someone with such a strong moral compass. American's need to relax, it is natural to admire and enjoy the human body.
  • So go back to Europe to look at half naked 20 yr olds!
  • I would love to warm my big icicle up inside her igloo!!
  • Hey, just because we ARE 250 pounds of woman, doesn't make us LESS of one! We are beautiful, and some of us cannot help it. Medications, injury etc has made us so. So, we are not 110 pounds of untoned, inflated fake breast, at least we are real. Also, wise $$$, I was a size 6/8 at one time and it was the most UN- F ing comfortable time of my life, because of how awkward it was being around creeps like you. Always staring, and saying nasty things. I was in a car accident that injured my back, and began to balloon up to 200 pounds, that is when I found my husband and love of my life. and at 250 pounds, he thinks I am the sexiest thing on earth.
  • This girl is so full of it, when she speaks the grass grows green. Sure! Her body was shutting down from the cold and she got frostbite. I don't think so! Nice Publicity by Time INc., though.
  • werewolf- So your husband is fat too? Why are you so defensive about your weight? No one was getting personal. Me thinks you have a complex about it or you wouldn't have responded so defensively. BTW- can't be good for your organs to be carrying that around...
  • I'm still looking for the sports to be illustrated in this illustration.

Report: Cowboys could still pursue Adrian Peterson

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media is reporting that the Dallas Cowboys could pursue Adrian Peterson as a replacement for RB DeMarco Murray next year.
