Manti Te’o has finally decided who he would like to talk with for his first sit-down interview since that whole dead girlfriend with cancer who is really alive but isn’t actually real at all thing broke. Just one question: Did he see Katie Couric interview Sarah Palin? ABC News has announced that Te’o will talk with Couric in an interview set to air Thursday on Couric’s daytime talk show, Katie. While Couric, who has an inviting presence and solid journalism credentials, would seem like a great choice for an interview that is sure to be difficult, Couric has previous experience interviewing a famous yet confused person, and it did not go well for said person. In the run-up to the 2008 election, Couric’s straight, basic questions to Palin, the Republican vice presidential candidate, caused Palin to appear uninformed and unequipped. Te’o has appeared unprepared to answer even the most basic questions about the hoax since the story broke Wednesday, and his Friday night interview with ESPN was only more confusing. He’d better have his answers prepared this time — especially the rudimentary ones, as Couric will likely do her duty and ask for simple answers to the questions everyone has had since Wednesday. She’s also been known to ask follow-up questions. Until then, check out some of Couric’s previous reporting, and the Saturday Night Live version below that.
