News out of Hollywood is that Oscar winner Ben Affleck has been tabbed to play the Caped Crusader in the as-yet-unnamed “Man of Steel” sequel set to be released in 2015. Zack Snyder is slated to direct, with Henry Cavill reprising his role as Superman alongside “Man of Steel” costars Amy Adams and Diane Lane. This isn’t the first time Affleck has taken on the role of film superhero, starring in the very mediocre “Daredevil” in 2003. Said Snyder (via Entertainment Weekly)… “Ben provides an interesting counter-balance to Henry’s Superman. He has the acting chops to create a layered portrayal of a man who is older and wiser than Clark Kent and bears the scars of a seasoned crime fighter, but retain the charm that the world sees in billionaire Bruce Wayne,” Snyder said in a statement. “I can’t wait to work with him.” As you can imagine, America’s reaction following the casting news was just about what you’d expect… 20 years ago we had Johnny Cash, Bob Hope and Steve Jobs and now we have no cash, no hope, no jobs and Ben Affleck is Batman. — pourmecoffee (@pourmecoffee) August 23, 2013 "Hey guys, you know how we have one and a half viable franchises? LET'S **** THEM BOTH UP REAL QUICK." -DC executives #batfleck — Thomas Galvin (@thomascgalvin) August 23, 2013 Reminder: Ben Affleck is only good at acting when he plays a Bostonian or a dude with a beard. This won't end well. — Cork Gaines (@CorkGaines) August 23, 2013 Ben Affleck, in the Dahhk Knight. Justice is heeah, and he's a wicked pissa. — patrick muldowney (@patmuldowney) August 23, 2013 Ben Affleck would be my second choice for the role of Batman. My first choice would be a tie between every other actor ever — Chris Illuminati (@chrisilluminati) August 23, 2013 Ben Affleck as #Batman is the worst thing to happen to the franchise since George Clooney's bat nipples…#WTF pic.twitter.com/0LowroH0UR — Maurice Scarborough (@MAScarborough) August 23, 2013 Going from Christian Bale to Ben Affleck as Batman is like going from Brett Favre to Christian Ponder. — Faux John Madden (@FauxJohnMadden) August 23, 2013 Exclusive Screen Test Shot from Ben Affleck's "Batman" audition. pic.twitter.com/HrQNHqWj7X — LouisvilleIncarnate (@ILiveThePopLife) August 23, 2013 Since Ben Affleck is now Batman, does that mean Gotham is now Boston? — Chris Kluwe (@ChrisWarcraft) August 23, 2013 BEN AFFLECK IS NAWT THE DAHK KNIGHT GAWTHAM WANTS, HE’S THE DAHK KNIGHT THAT’S GONNA LEAVE THIS WHOLE FACKIN TOWN IN HIS REAHVIEW! — Vince Mancini (@Filmdrunk) August 23, 2013 You read for a part, you feel good about it, you feel confident, then they cast Ben Affleck. — Richard Dreyfuss (@RichardDreyfuss) August 23, 2013 Ben Affleck as Batman. Does that mean Matt Damon will play Robin? #ThingsToPonderAtNight pic.twitter.com/CjNnTqnRwq — Not Bill Walton (@NotBillWalton) August 23, 2013 Let’s just hope Ben Affleck has the common sense and presence of mind to stay off the Internet for the next couple of days.
