Across four decades, Shakira has established herself as one of the biggest Latin stars in the world. The Colombian pop icon has scored hits in both Spanish and English. To look back on Shakira's journey to global prominence, here are 20 of her must-hear classics and collaborations.

Shakira first made her mark in the Latin music scene with "Estoy Aquí" in 1995. The title of her angsty Latin pop track translates in English to "I'm Here," which doubled as a statement that she wasn't going anywhere. The Shakira classic is probably best known for its melody, which is similar to "I'll Stand By You" by the Pretenders.

Another memorable classic from Shakira's 1995 album Pies Descalzos is "Antología." In the heartfelt ballad, she beautifully serenaded her lover about the power of their life-changing romance. With the Dónde Están Los Ladrones? album, Shakira also started showing that her sound wasn't limited to one genre. In the sassy "Ciega, Sordomuda," she blended elements of Mexican ranchera music with rock and dance music. In the music video, Shakira notably wore her hair in multi-colored braids, which became a popular Latina style in the late nineties.
