Todd Haynes and Joaquin Phoenix Team up for New Film

The Academy Award-nominated Todd Haynes is teaming up with the Academy Award-winning Joaquin Phoenix on a new film.

Phoenix will star in the currently untitled film, directed by Haynes, which charts the love story between two men in the 1930s.

Further details are yet to be unveiled, but Haynes is eyeing a summer shoot, and casting is underway for additional roles, including the person who will play opposite Phoenix.

Haynes' previous films include Far from Heaven, Carol and Dark Waters. Most recently, he directed May December, starring Natalie Portman and Julianne Moore. The film follows an actress researching for her latest film while spending time with the married couple whose notorious tabloid romance inspired the role she will play. Samy Burch and Alex Mechanik received an Oscar nomination for the screenplay, and the film opened to critical acclaim.

Joaquin Phoenix's next project will be a sequel to Todd Phillips' 2021 film Joker. Titled Joker: Folie à Deux, the cast will include Zazie Beetz, Brendan Gleeson, Catherine Keener, Steve Coogan, Ken Leung and Lady Gaga. It will release on October 4, 2024.
