The Philadelphia Flyers have taken to calling goalie Ilya Bryzgalov by the nickname "Universe," and for good reason: His intergalactic philosophizing on our place in the solar system made him the first star of Episode 1 for "HBO 24/7 Flyers Rangers: The Road To The NHL Winter Classic."
In Episode 2, things got meta for Bryz: The Flyers discussed his rants about the galaxy and the slaughter of endangered tigers during a team meal, leading to more Bryz gold about dogs-as-beautiful women; and later, Bryzgalov went from pretending to be an administrative assistant to questioning the sanity of defensemen.
Enjoy (PG-13 WARNING: On nasty word uttered.)
The conversation between Bryzgalov and Flyers rookie Harry Zolnierczyk may not be as "huMANgous big" as last week's (or "epic," as Bryzgalov called it), but it may actually top it as far as sheer strangeness. For the video impaired:

Ilya Bryzgalov continues to be a delight on HBO's 24/7 as the show follows the Flyers and Rangers preparing for the Winter Classic. The Philadelphia goalie was the undisputed breakout star of the first episode, and he continued to live up to the top billing in the latest episode on Wednesday. During a conversation with teammate Harry Zolnierczyk, Bryzgalov began describing his...
… yes, Ilya has Dr. J on his helmet. Say what you want, but Biron’s mask is by far the best of the bunch. Now, someone ask Bryz if he knows who Dr. J is and if he’s going to save the universe! Hat tip to Buzz on Broad
In HBO’s 24/7: Road to the NHL Winter Classic, Ilya Bryzgalov was a star, yet again.
Last week he gave quite the performance with a lecture about the universe. He received the nickname “the Universe” by teammates during last night’s Episode 2.

The early standout star in HBO's 24/7: Road to the Winter Classic, Philadelphia Flyers goalie Ilya Bryzgalov is a bizarre but super interesting fellow. In preparation for his team's dalliance with outdoor hockey on Jan 1, Ilya got himself a specially made goalie mask for the occasion. Created by Franny Drummond of Drummond Classic Airbrush, the two conspired to create a...

Philadelphia Flyers Ilya Bryzgalov gets a custom paint job for his 2012 Winter Classic goalie mask…His goaltending may have been erratic thus far, bust his masks are consistently top-notch…They would never let this fly in the No Fun League. -TO

As 2011 comes close to turning into 2012, I thought it would be an interesting idea to give each Flyer a gift that will help them through the stretch run of the season and into, hopefully, the playoffs:
Ilya Bryzgalov: Consistency. “The astronomer” has shown flashes of brilliance so far this year, but has also left [...]
There was a lot of hype surrounding the mathcup at Madison Square Garden. HBO cameras were there, and it was a preview of the upcoming Winter Classic. The Rangers dominated the entire game, and the Flyers were back on their heels. After the game, Ilya Bryzgalov was clearly frustrated when asked about the deflections that have gotten by him this year.
- Bryz played very...
Episode 1 lived up to the hype. It featured a whole lot of swearing (as usual), John Tortorella ripping into Marian Gaborik and Ilya Bryzgalov telling us about the universe.
Episode 2 also promises to be good (I won’t spoil anything for you).
I can't decide who is funnier saying jingle bells - Sean Couturier or Ilya Bryzgalov?

That stick is like huMANgous big …
As you know, the NHL Winter Classic is less a hockey game than an ATM machine for the League and its sponsors, as the fans in both of the teams' cities and on-site for the game snatch up all sorts of gear related to the annual outdoor game.
The 2011 Winter Classic set an NHL record for revenue generated by a single event; that record was...
