This weekend is the second leg of my four-week college football road trip, which is being generously sponsored by La Quinta.
The excursion could not have come at a better time for me as a sports fan.
My Sports Burnout Confession
I’m 31 years old. And for every second of my life that I can remember, sports have been an integral part of my life. This is the natural result of growing up the son of a football coach and having a mom who probably loves football even more than he does.
Not the actual fridge magnet, but close enough.
The best way I can sum it up is this: we had a magnet on our refrigerator door when I was a kid that said “Football is not a matter of life and death; it’s much more important.” This wasn’t hyperbole.
In our family, and in any family where sports pay the bills, such a sentiment is undeniably true.
And football wasn’t even my favorite sport growing up!
