Pocono, PA- It’s been a struggle recently for A.J. Foyt Racing’s Takuma Sato. They haven’t finished in the top 15 in the last six races as he has finishes of 19th, 18th, 18th, 18th, 22nd and 19th respectively since the Indianapolis 500. But, they seem to have things possibly figured out this weekend at the Pocono Raceway as Sato was very quick in both Verizon IndyCar Series practice sessions around the 2.5-mile oval.
The Japanese driver was fifth quickest in the initial hour-long session this morning with a top lap of 220.379 mph in his No. 14 ABC Supply Co. Honda. He backed that up in final practice as he was seventh overall with a time of 222.215 mph.
That has to have his hopes high heading into tomorrow’s 500-mile race at the “Tricky Triangle” as he clearly has a very fast car. If they can stay out of trouble on Sunday then they will certainly have a chance tomorrow afternoon.
Bad luck though has haunted Sato this year and if they can get rid of that he will be a contender. It’s all about putting your car in the right spot at the right time at the end of the race. I think this could be the weekend Sato does that.
