Max Verstappen claims he’ll leave F1 before turning 40 to ‘experience’ different racing series
Peter Casey-USA TODAY Sports

In recent times, Max Verstappen ‘s future at Red Bull has been heavily discussed because of the ongoing shenanigans at Red Bull. However, the Dutchman does not seem interested in moving away from the team and instead is looking to walk away from the sport altogether before he turns 40.

In the ’50s and ’60s, drivers racing into their 40s was normal. However, soon the F1 landscape changed, and the average age of the grid started to fall at a rapid pace. This, in turn, had the consequence of drivers not racing into their 40s and retiring from the sport quite early.

In contrast, Fernando Alonso is known for his love for the sport as he is still racing in F1 at the age of 42. Subsequently, fans expected that Max Verstappen would follow in the footsteps of the Aston Martin driver, but his response conveyed a different message.

At some point I want to experience all different types of racing outside of F1, so I won't be here until I'm 40. Max Verstappen said in an interview with Motorsport.uol

The 26-year-old claimed that he would bid farewell to F1 well before his 40s and go on exploring other forms of motorsport. This response conveyed the reigning champion’s strong stance as F1 is eager to add more races to the calendar while the Dutchman has been opposing. However, there is still a long way before his retirement and he is expected to be at the top of his game for several years to come.

Max Verstappen claims he is determined to continue winning

Despite his attention being drifted away by other motorsports, the Dutchman’s heart still belongs in F1. Moreover, the Red Bull driver has claimed to be more determined than ever to stay at the pinnacle of the standings and enjoy the dopamine rush achieved by winning races.

Verstappen claimed that he still cares about winning and is not in F1 for the sake of it.

Of course I get angry when things happen that we could have prevented. I think it's good that I still get angry, because if I don't get angry, it means I don't care. When you don't care, you're no longer doing your best. At that point, you start to question your existence in sport. I love winning and I love being at the top, I love working with all the amazing people on the team. I think what What really motivates me is to always try to be close to perfection. Max Verstappen said in an interview with Motorsport.uol

Verstappen admitted that he gets angry every time he makes a mistake that could have been prevented. Moreover, if such mistakes cost him wins, then he blames himself for it. This proves that he still craves the feeling of winning and is not racing just to make money.

Apart from this, Verstappen is expected to be racing with the Austrian squad in 2025. However, with Adrian Newey leaving the team, there is a chance that he could end up in Brackley.
